An Evening with the Holberg Prize

Holberg Laurate Paul Gilroy and Nils Klim Laureate Finnur Dellsén in conversation.

The 2019 Holberg Prize is awarded to British cultural historian Paul Gilroy for his ground-breaking contributions to a number of academic fields, including cultural studies, critical race studies, sociology, history, anthropology and African-American studies. Gilroy is Professor of American and English Literature at King’s College London.

The Nils Klim Prize is awarded to Icelandic philosopher Finnur Dellsén for his research in epistemology and the philosophy of science. Dellsén is Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Iceland.

The event will feature the two laureates in conversation about their background and their research. The discussion will also touch on the role of the universities in public debate, and what it means to be an expert.

The conversation will be moderated by Ole Thomassen Hjortland, Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Bergen.
