Helga Nowotny made Honorary Doctor at University of Bergen

Former Holberg Committee member Helga Nowotny was made Honorary Doctor at the University of Bergen in a ceremony Friday October 2nd.

“Nowotny has played a particularly important role at UiB through her work as chairperson of the Holberg Committee over many years,” said Dag Rune Olsen, rector at the University of Bergen, at the ceremony.

Helga Nowotny was member of the Holberg Committee from 2008-2014.

Professor Helga Nowotny is professor emerita of Social Studies of Science at ETH Zurich. She was president of the European Research Council (ERC) from March 2010 until December 2013. Nowotny is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and she has a range of awards from various European universities.

Author Jon Fosse, former US Vice President Walter F. Mondale, and patron of the arts and science Trond Mohn was also made Honorary Doctors at the same ceremony.
